Jetstar Business Class Brisbane to Tokyo: Premium Economy or Something More?

Why we chose Jetsar over Qantas for our Tokyo Flight

We recently flew Brisbane (BNE) to Tokyo (Narita, NRT) for a vacation. It was our first trip to Japan in years. We wanted to fly direct, and as it was more than an eight-hour flight, I wanted comfort without overspending. Our choice came down to Qantas or Jetstar – the only direct options.

which limited us to the choice of Qantas or Jetstar. As it was a vacation and the flight is more than eight hours, checked in luggage and in-flight meals were important. I have always wanted to fly business class so also considered this as an option. We selected Jetstar business class for several reasons which I will explain.

After comparing fares, Qantas economy with checked luggage and meals was around 60% more than Jetstar’s Business Class. I’d always dreamed of flying business, and Jetstar’s pricing made it possible. So, we decided to give it a try—eyes wide open—knowing it wouldn’t be full luxury, but perhaps something between Premium Economy and Business Class.

What you get Flying Jetstar Business Class

etstar operates the Brisbane–Tokyo route on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, and their Business Class cabin is small and peaceful. Here’s what stood out for us:

• Seat comfort and space: The seats are wider, with generous recline, footrests, and noticeably more legroom than economy. Pillows and blankets are provided, and having the extra space made a huge difference.
• Service: We were welcomed with a drink, enjoyed a choice of hot meals, and appreciated the regular snack and drink rounds. The crew were friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
• Ambience: The cabin felt calm and uncrowded. It was wonderful not to fight for overhead locker space, and the toilets were spotless each time we used them.
• Amenity kit: A thoughtful touch including toothbrush and paste, lip balm, pen, neck cushion, and ear plugs.

If felt like premium economy plus experience – comfortable, convenient, and better than I expected from a low-cost carrier.

What Jetstar Business Class is Not

It’s important to have realistic expectations.

• Not a lie-flat bed: These are recliner seats, not full flat-beds. So for a ~9-10 hour flight, it’s more comfortable than economy, but don’t expect the same sleeping comfort as you’d get in long-haul business class on “full-service” carriers.
• No Premium Economy layer: Officially, Jetstar has Economy and Business only. They do not offer a separate “Premium Economy” class on the BNE-Tokyo route. In many respects their Business is positioned somewhere between what other airlines would call Premium Economy and lower-end Business.
• Fewer perks vs full service carriers: Things like lounge access, amenity kits, perhaps more flexible change/refund rules—these may be less generous than what you get with big international airlines’ business or premium economy cabin.

That said, the comfort, quiet cabin, and price easily outwighted these limitations for us.

Comparing Jetstar with Qantas

When we compared Qantas economy and Jetstar business fares, the decision was simple. For less money, we gained more space, priority boarding, and a quieter, more pleasant journey.

Unless you’re chasing frequent flyer points or full-service benefits, Jetstar’s Business Class offers excellent value.

Personal Impressions

I’ve always viewed flying as part of the adventure, and this experience felt special from the start. Sitting in a larger, leather recliner seat, sipping a welcome drink as the cabin lights dimmed, I felt quietly delighted that we’d chosen this upgrade.

We arrived in Tokyo refreshed enough to explore straight away. It wasn’t luxury, but it was peaceful, and it set a wonderful tone for our trip. For anyone wanting comfort without extravagance, I’d happily recommend Jetstar Business Class.

Is it Worth It?

Absolutely—if you want to travel direct, enjoy a bit of extra comfort, and still feel you’ve spent wisely. Jetstar’s Business Class hits the sweet spot between affordability and a touch of indulgence.

It’s ideal for:

• Travellers wanting more comfort without the full-service price tag.
• Couples or solo travellers on long-haul leisure trips.
• Anyone who values a calm cabin and space to unwind.

Tips Before You Book
